Karim R. Lakhani is a lecturer in the Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship group at the MIT Sloan School of Management and a member of the Strategy Practice leadership team at The Boston Consulting Group. He is joining the faculty of Harvard Business School as an assistant professor in July 2006. He is a co-founder of the MIT Open Source Research Project and runs the MIT based Open Source Research Community website. His research at MIT is focused on the management of technological innovation with a specific interest in distributed innovation and technological and scientific problem solving in communities and firms. His work at BCG is focused on the intersection of emerging technologies, intellectual property and new organization forms. He is a co-editor of the book “Perspectives on Free and Open Source Software” (MIT Press, 2005 ). He was a recipient of the Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarship and a four year Doctoral Fellowship from Canada’s Social Science and Humanities Research Council. He has a Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering and Management from McMaster University, Canada, a Masters degree in Technology and Policy and a PhD in Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Previously he has worked full-time at GE Medical Systems and The Boston Consulting Group.
